Ring Size: 8 (will re-size to any size 8 to 10)… Weight: 10.8 grams The 130 year old Tiffany “Richelieu” pattern is a lovely pattern designed by Paulding Farnham, Tiffany’s chief designer of that period. It features 5 daisy’s with a wave pattern on the front. The inside is hallmarked with TIFFANY & CO. 1892″ With the “T” Tiffany date mark The upper case “T” indicates it was made during the Charles L Tiffany period (1891 – 1902) (see photos) To get a’balanced’ ring with all hallmarks intact this ring was made from a 4 5/8″ demitasse / coffee spoon. The name was shortened to Tiffany & Co. In 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control, and the firm’s emphasis on jewelry was established. The History of Spoon Rings Spoon rings are believed to have originated in England in the 1600’s. The story is that servants that couldn’t afford a’real’ wedding ring would steal a silver spoon from their master and have it crafted into a ring. For a poor person a stolen spoon was to best, and easiest, way to give the woman they loved a beautiful ring. As the practice spread more and more silverware’went missing’ but since spoons were usually monogrammed, and newlyweds on staff were known to all, it wasn’t hard to find the culprit and what was left of the spoon. Many arrests were made from the 17th to the 19th century with offenses ranging from “stealing a silver spoon” to larceny by a servant. Criminal records allowed historians to determine when spoon rings began. By the 19th century Spoon Ring popularity waned but then it took off again during the 60’s and 70’s. This time though it was as much about fashion as it was about love. It still works both ways though and when you combine the two… All rings are handcrafted from 60 to 150 year old sterling silver spoons that I personally selected for quality… And elegance of design.
