Hello and happy holidays! Please feel free to do a general search for MousesHouseAntiques as I have over 600 additional pieces available besides what is showing here! Also feel free to reach out if you are looking for anything specific! Fun little antique sterling dish and spoon set by two of the great American silversmiths / makers – Wallace and Whiting. We have an oval dish with holly decorations around the rim by Wallace and a mistletoe slotted bon bon spoon by Whiting. The spoon bowl has a very soft vermeil gold wash remaining that gives it a warm glow. Beautiful for a holiday table being one of the colors of the season. The bowl has an initial monogram – M or W? Please read important condition notes. Dish measures about 6 3/4 by 5 1/4 and about an inch deep. Spoon is 4 3/4 inches. Combined weight is about 94 grams on my little digital scale. Both Marked Sterling with appropriate maker’s marks. In estate condition considering age. The bowl has quite a lot of stubborn tarnish. The rasied areas have a nice shine but the underside and some other areas are still spotted. The monogrammed smooth base of the bowl has many pinhead dings and shallow pock marks made more evident by the smooth mirrored finish there. IT gives it a sort of rippled appearance. The rim has 2 utensil nicks that I could see but is otherwise nicely shaped. The spoon has some stubborn tarnish spots and the gold wash is very soft. You can see some wear from use and polishing, so please note the tarnish, faint scratches, small scuffs, utensil marks and/or nicks so PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A MINT Condition item. Any questions, just ask : Thanks for stopping by my store! Georg Jensen, the father of Scandinavian Silver, on the occasion of his 60th birthday remarked, Silver is the best material we have. The character of silver is satisfactorily obstinate, it has to be conquered and then it has the wonderful moonlight luster. [It] can seem like twilight, or, when it dews over, like ground mist rising. I COULDN’T AGREE MORE. This item is in the category “Antiques\Silver\Sterling Silver (.925)\Flatware & Silverware”.
